Areas of Expertise and Specialties

Relationship and Marital Counseling

Whether you are facing conflict, loss of trust, or a loss of connection our goal is to heal what is broken and restore a more intimate connection.

Spiritual Direction

The problems of the spirit cannot be healed by the brain. Our spirits heal by listening to our hearts and to the heart of God.

I often recommend centering prayer, mindfulness and quiet reflection to help discern God’s leading in your life.

Grief and Loss

There is a temptation to hide in our grief but when grief remains unexpressed it hardens and then it is often experienced as depression, anxiety, or bitterness.

Together we will honor what has been lost and gently work toward healing, renewal and hope.

Recovery

Recovery takes time whether you are recovering from trauma, divorce, addiction or a serious illness.

It is important to know that everyone recovers at his or her own pace and in his or her own time. Treatment involves treating the whole person- mind, body, and spirit. I believe the process of recovery needs to be immersed with grace and patience while also promoting accountability, forgiveness, and self-care.

Mood Disorders

Depression and anxiety can make daily living feel overwhelming and hopeless. Our sessions will provide a safe and compassionate space to understand your emotions, ease the emotional weight you carry, change negative thought patterns, and find a renewed sense of peace and direction. Depression and anxiety are often two sides of the same coin.

Aging and Caregiving

The aging process involves both loss and growth and is a progression from independence to various stages of dependence. We will address the physical, psychological, and social needs of both the aging one and the caregiver. Caregivers have a very stressful role and need increased support and resources as they attempt to balance their job, families and self-care while caring for their loved one. Together we will explore how to face these challenges with grace, purpose, and compassion.

Family Counseling

When someone in your family is struggling with mental health issues it affects everyone in the family. Key principles of family counseling include focusing on dysfunctional relationship patterns, building skills to improve communication, and establishing healthy boundaries.

Support for Clergy & Healthcare Workers

Caring for those who care for others is one of my highest callings. I have found much joy in “helping the helpers”. I offer support for clergy and their staff and provide consultation for mental health professionals. In addition to counseling, I offer seminars, workshops, and retreats to address psychological and spiritual needs.

Parenting and Empty Nest

By far, the hardest tasks of life are staying married and raising healthy children. As our children grow into adulthood, we are faced with the challenge of transitioning into a new role of launching and letting go. Often unresolved marital issues resurface and need to be processed during this transition.
